Ubisoft Halifax, the studio liable for creating Murderer’s Creed Rise up and dealing on video games like Rainbow Six Cellular, has been shut down lower than three weeks after it grew to become Ubisoft’s first North American location to unionize.

Based on an inner workers e-mail seen by VGC, the choice to shut the Halifax location was made as a part of “company-wide cost-cutting and restructuring measures” (that is VGC’s wording, not Ubisoft’s), and never due to its current unionization.

In a press release given to VGC (which is filled with the same old company fluff), Ubisoft stated the closure was because of a company-wide push to “streamline operations, enhance effectivity, and scale back prices”, and that Halifax’s 71 staff are being supplied “complete severance packages and extra profession help”.

Ubisoft Halifax is, or was, liable for Murderer’s Creed Rise up.

Ubisoft Halifax’s best-known export might be the cell recreation Murderer’s Creed Rise up, and Ubisoft will apparently be halting reside operations for Murderer’s Creed Rise up following “a gradual decline within the recreation’s revenues”, in keeping with Gamesindustry.biz.

As such, whereas the timing of Halifax’s shutdown may appear a bit suspicious, I would be inclined to consider Ubisoft when it says the choice has been made for cost-cutting causes, as callous as that may sound. In spite of everything, it has been a tough yr for the writer.

2025 noticed Ubisoft making layoffs throughout plenty of studios, together with The Division’s Huge Leisure and Trials’ RedLynx, with longtime Murderer’s Creed boss Marc-Alexis Côté apparently leaving the studio after twenty years again in October.

Though Murderer’s Creed Rise up is likely to be coming to an finish, Ubisoft remains to be shifting full steam forward with the collection; a Black Flag remake might be about to be introduced, though Murderer’s Creed Shadows will seemingly buck a current development by not getting a second large enlargement.

Murderer’s Creed Shadows is not getting a second enlargement, apparently.

This is hoping that the parents being let go from Ubisoft Halifax discover new jobs rapidly, though the present state of the trade means that is likely to be a little bit of a problem. Keep tuned for extra.
